As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced MECHANIC to join our underground operations team.

Role Summary: The Mechanic will be responsible for the diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing of heavy mobile mining equipment (jumbos, haul trucks, loaders, drills) and support vehicles in our operation. He must ensure maximum safety, reliability, and minimal downtime through preventive maintenance, detailed record-keeping, and strict adherence to site safety protocols and statutory mining regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs), major overhauls, and emergency repairs on mobile fleet (scoops, jumbos, haulers, utility vehicles) and fixed plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical (low voltage), and pneumatic issues using manuals and diagnostic tools.
  • Works on engines, powertrains, hydraulics, fuel systems, braking systems, and air/AC systems.
  • Strictly follows all site-specific safety regulations, participates in hazard assessments, and uses required PPE.
  • Accurately records all maintenance activities, parts used, and inspections in work orders and service records.
  • Conducts general fabrication, frame repairs, and component replacement (e.g., engine, transmission).
  • Tests repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications and operational requirements. 
  • Responds to equipment breakdowns directly at the active mine face or in underground tunnels to minimize production downtime.
  • Performs basic welding (MIG, Stick, Arc) and fabrication for structural repairs and component mounting.

Requirements:

  • Must have a Maintenance Technician Certificate of Competency (MINCOM Ghana).
  • Must hold a valid mechanical professional certificate with proven experience with heavy mobile mining equipment.
  • Must be able to read and understand Hydraulic circuit diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding (MIG, Stick, TIG).
  • Excellent diagnostic and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, lift heavy loads (up to 25kg), climb, bend, and work in dusty/damp conditions.
  • Strong communication (English), teamwork, and ability to work unsupervised.
