DHS Operator
Procrest Africa, a company under the CMAC-Thyssen Mining Group (Canada), is an underground mining services company supporting operations in Ghana. Our core services include raise boring, vertical and lateral underground development, contract mining, and shaft sinking. We are committed to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality underground mining solutions.
As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Jack Hammer operator to be trained to become a DHS OPERATOR in our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Jack hammer operator (DHS Operator) will be responsible for the use of pneumatically powered rock drilling machines to bore holes for blasting, and installation of ground supports in an underground mine environment while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Using DHS machine to drill holes for blasting, and installation of ground support bolts and wire mesh in underground development headings.
- Conducting pre-shift inspections and risk assessments of the work area and equipment to identify hazards and ensure a safe working environment. This involves following all safety regulations and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Reporting major malfunctions of the equipment to the shift boss, and maintenance crews.
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and co-workers to coordinate activities, ensure smooth operations, and report any issues or safety concerns.
- Maintaining production records, such as the numbers of blast holes drilled, ground support holes drilled, and wire mesh installed, and other operational data.
Requirements:
- A minimum of between 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Jack hammer operator.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- Must have a deep understanding of working with high pressure compressed air systems.
- An extensive working knowledge in the drilling and installation of ground support bolts, and wire mesh, and the drilling of blast holes.
- Must understand geological structures and strata control mechanisms.
- Strong safety mindset and ability to work independently.
- Physically fit and comfortable working underground/on-site in challenging conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrating great attention to detail, with ability to troubleshoot problems.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures.
