Jumbo Operator

As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced JUMBO OPERATOR to join our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Jumbo Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a jumbo drill rig, to support underground mining operations. This role involves boring blast holes, drilling and installing ground support in mine development headings while strictly adhering to all safety and regulatory guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate either a single or double boom jumbo drill rig to drill blast holes and/or drill and install ground support.
- Strictly adhere to all company Health & Safety policies, site-specific rules, and the relevant mining regulations (e.g., the Ghana Minerals and Mining, Safety, Health and Technical Regulations, 2012 (L.I.2182)
- Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on the jumbo to ensure it is in safe working condition. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and identifying potential faults or malfunctions for repair.
- Assist in securing the ground by scaling loose rock from walls and the roof and installing ground support items such as rock bolts, screens, and straps.
- Install and dismantle pumps and pump, where required and ensure the work area has no accumulation of water, is clean and free of debris and potential hazards.
- Effectively communicate with the crew, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate operations. Maintain accurate records of operational activities, maintenance logs, and production data
Requirements:
- Prior experience (typically a minimum of three years) working in an underground mining environment is required. Experience operating a jumbo drill rig is essential.
- Valid Jumbo operator certification and relevant licenses as required by local regulations, or equivalent certifications.
- Proficiency in operating machine control systems, strong mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance, and the ability to read technical documents like mine plans and specifications.
- Strong commitment to safety, excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a demanding environment.
- Physical fitness and the capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing/sitting for long periods, and working in tight spaces and challenging conditions.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, including background checks and substance tests.
