As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced MECHANIC SUPERVISOR to join our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Mechanic Supervisor will be responsible for leading the diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing of heavy mobile mining equipment (jumbos, haul trucks, loaders, drills) and support vehicles in our operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises daily maintenance of underground equipment, including loaders (LHDs), haul trucks, jumbos, drills, and utility vehicles.
- Coordinates preventative maintenance (PM), major component change-outs, and emergency breakdown repairs.
- Enforces strict adherence to safety standards (e.g., MSHA, OSHA) and internal Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Leads incident investigations, conducts root cause analysis (RCA), and performs regular workplace safety inspections.
- Provides leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to the maintenance crew.
- Conducts performance evaluations, supports employee development, and fosters a positive, enthusiastic team environment.
- Conducting daily pre-start meetings and “toolbox” safety talks.
- Monitors equipment reliability and performance and escalates recurring issues to engineering team.
- Ensures all maintenance records, work orders, inspections, shift reports, and employee’s attendance records are accurately completed and entered into the Maintenance Management System.
Requirements:
- Must have an Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competency (MINCOM Ghana).
- A minimum of 7 years in underground heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 2–4 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- A minimum of a degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant trade certificates (e.g., Heavy Duty Mechanic License).
- Deep expertise in underground equipment manufacturers (e.g., Epiroc, Sandvik, Caterpillar, Normet,) and diagnostics.
- Must be able to read and understand hydraulic circuit diagrams.
- A valid trade certificate/license as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic (or equivalent)
- Proven experience with CMMS and MS Office software.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with management, engineers, and the workforce.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection.
- Ability to work in a challenging underground environment, which may include shift work and exposure to temperature extremes and noise
- Strong communication (English), teamwork, and ability to work unsupervised.
