As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced PIPE FITTER to join our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Pipe Fitter will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used to transport process water, pump water, compressed air, and ventilation essential for mining operations within the mine while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting technical blueprints and schematics to plan and install new piping systems in various parts of the mine, including access ramps, shafts, and work areas.
- Measuring, cut, thread, assemble, and install pipes made of various materials (steel, copper, PVC, etc.);
- Connecting pipe sections using various methods like welding, soldering, brazing, bolting, or cementing, depending on the material and application.
- Performing assembly and welding of piping sections according to standards;
- Inspecting systems for leaks, wear, or failures and carry out necessary repairs;
- Performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify and fix faults, leaks, or wear and tear in existing pipework.
- Increasing pressure in pipe systems and observing gauges to test for leaks and ensure all connections meet stringent safety and operational standards.
- Installing and maintaining related components such as valves, hangers, brackets, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic and hydraulic controls.
- Adhering strictly to health, safety, and environmental protocols due to the presence of hazardous gases, chemicals, and high-pressure systems in the underground environment.
Requirements:
- A trained and certified pipe fitting professional with a minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in an underground mining environment.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and piping specifications.
- Must have strong knowledge of pumps, valves, and pressure systems.
- Experience using pipe fitting tools and equipment (threaders, cutters, grinders, chain blocks, etc.).
- Physically fit and able to work in challenging outdoor/underground conditions.
- Strong safety mindset with adherence to permits, risk assessments, and mining standards.
- Good communication and the ability to work effectively in a team.
