Skid Steer Operator

As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced SKID STEER OPERATOR to join our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Skid Steer Operator will be responsible for general cleaning and housekeeping jobs in very tight areas where other larger equipment cannot fit. The Skid Steer Operator maintains haul roads by clearing debris and spillage. The Steer Skid Operator works by strictly adhering to stringent underground mining safety protocols (PPE, ventilation, confined spaces) to ensure efficient, safe cleaning in tight, hazardous environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operating the skid steer loader to excavate, scooping, loading, and transporting cleaned material from the working area.
- Clearing spillage, debris, and maintaining the condition of underground roadways to ensure clear passage for other trackless mining equipment.
- Conducting daily pre-operational checks (fluids, tracks, tires, hydraulics) and post-shift inspections; strictly following all company safety, health, and environmental (SHE) policies, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintaining constant communication with other miners and supervisors; operating in confined spaces, managing dust, noise, and vibration hazards.
- Performing basic maintenance, clean the machine, and assist with general tasks as directed by supervisors.
Requirements:
- Proven experience operating skid steer loaders or similar underground mining equipment.
- Must have an operator’s license as given by the Machine Inspector of the Minerals Commission.
- Strong understanding of underground mining hazards and safety procedures.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- Ability to work in demanding conditions (confined spaces, dust, noise).
- Excellent machine control and situational awareness.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Good communication skills for clear signals and coordination.
- Physical fitness and stamina to work in demanding underground conditions.
- A “safety-first” mindset is critical due to the high-risk nature of mining environments.
